Minor Football League Explores Expansion into Central Florida
Rockledge, Fla. – August 28, 2024 –
The Minor Football League (MFL) is excited to announce its latest feasibility study focused on expanding into Central Florida. Over the weekend, Dr. Richard D. Myles, CEO/Chairman and Founder of the MFL, visited Rockledge, Fla., to engage with the local community and discuss the potential for establishing two new league franchises in the region.
The visit followed an initial discussion at the U.S. Black Chamber of Commerce (USBC) Conference held at the Waldorf Astoria in Washington, D.C., where the MFL's expansion plans were first introduced. The USBC, recognized as the "National Voice of Black Businesses," plays a crucial role in promoting economic empowerment within the Black community by providing visionary leadership, advocacy, and access to resources that support a network of African American Chambers of Commerce and business organizations.
Hosted by the Space Coast Black Chamber of Commerce (SCBCC), the Rockledge meeting aimed to explore the feasibility and potential growth of the MFL in Brevard County. The SCBCC, an affiliate of the USBC, is dedicated to promoting economic development and business opportunities for Black-owned businesses on Florida's Space Coast. Through strategic programs, networking opportunities, and educational workshops, the SCBCC equips Black entrepreneurs with the tools and knowledge necessary to thrive in a competitive marketplace.
Dr. Richard D. Myles expressed his excitement about the expansion, stating, “Exploring the 72 miles of coastline in Florida's Space Coast and connecting with some of the small and minority business owners was a crucial part of the league's feasibility study. The MFL is excited to continue to expand our partnership with the Space Coast Black Chamber of Commerce. We appreciate meeting with officials from the city of Cocoa, Rockledge and other municipalities to begin initial conversations of what it would mean to bring the laboratory of change to Florida."
Victoria Jones, Founder, President, and CEO of the Space Coast Black Chamber of Commerce, echoed this sentiment, stating, “I believe having a professional Minor Football League would be a great opportunity for our students who may not have the luxury of being seen by a university to still have the chance to be discovered. This also could provide a pathway for our students who go off to college and play but may return home for unforeseen circumstances and never go professional. As for tourism, this would be great and would bring even more economic growth to our community.”
The meeting highlighted the numerous benefits of bringing the MFL to Brevard County, including new opportunities for aspiring football players and a boost to local tourism and economic development. The event was attended by local dignitaries, including Deputy Mayor Lavander Hearn of the City of Cocoa, Councilman Dr. Michael Cadore of the City of Rockledge, and Economic Development Director John Cooper of the City of Rockledge.
